Cock-a-doodle-doo! Roosters rule!
I’ve always been a fan of the rooster. This bastion of the barnyard is brave (he sounds a distinctive alarm if predators approach) and, head-to-toe, he embraces color like a true fashionista. He walks with a proud, sassy strut worthy of a Paris runway. Perhaps that’s why this plucky fella is such a beloved decor element in French country homes from the Loire Valley and beyond. In such rustic settings, rooster motifs are woven into fabrics, printed on tabletop and handcrafted into colorful pitchers, figurines and more. If you’ve ever stepped inside a home in France, you know what I mean. There’s usually at least one rooster somewhere in sight!

This kitchen has turned a bistro-inspired island into a design focal point with a highly detailed architectural range hood, granite counters, banquette seating (with storage beneath-love that!) and two richly-hued ceramic roosters that visually anchor the space.
I’ve collected antique doorstops for over two decades and love to place them in unexpected places like this homeowner’s done in her New York Hudson River Valley home. Her 19th century cast-iron rooster doorstop, perched on the narrow ledge in front of the sink backsplash, adds a French twist to a space often overlooked in kitchens.
Editing is essential to every well-designed home, as seen here. It may be tempting to deck our your home with roosters from top-to-bottom but try to resist Less is often more as seen here on this Santa Monica porch. Two rooster pillows was all it took to pull together the entire color palette of this space and emphasize the cozy mix of patterns.

This Homespun Rooster napkin holder does its job in classic Country French style from its shapely napkin weight to chicken wire-inspired caddy.
Although roosters are often displayed in traditional settings, they can play well in contemporary, too. It all comes down to design and accessorization, as these items reveal.

Although dubbed the Country Rooster corkboard, this silhouette-inspired piece would look great in a contemporary setting, too. It adds bold, graphic pop to the room.
